Krautburger

Krautburgers are the ultimate comfort food, combining savory and satisfying ingredients in a warm, flaky package. They’re perfect for packing for snacking on the go or enjoying for lunch or dinner.

This recipe starts with one pound of lean ground beef alongside half a chopped onion. Once the meat and onions are nicely cooked, shredded cabbage is added for a delightful crunch. To deepen the flavors, stir in a couple of tablespoons of onion soup mixed with a splash of white vinegar to give the recipe some tang. Salt and black pepper are added to the dish to round out the seasoning, making the filling irresistible.

The filling is then enveloped in buttermilk biscuit dough, kneaded until smooth and rolled out to just the right thickness. Cut into generous squares, each piece of dough is topped with a couple of tablespoons of the beef and cabbage mixture and a slice of cheddar cheese. Folding the dough over the filling and pinching the edges to seal creates a neat little package that is then brushed with melted butter. This step is essential and ensures the krautburgers bake to a beautiful golden brown, with a tender, buttery crust that complements the hearty filling.

These krautburgers are baked until crispy, and the cheese inside has melted into the filling. The result is a delicious, comforting meal perfect for any occasion. Each bite offers a satisfying combination of flavors, making these krautburgers a beloved dish that brings warmth and comfort around the dinner table.
